The Preserve is an excellent site
for offgrid development.

The grid is 12 miles away but solar energy and water are free and abundant. Build a comfortable home that catches both for house and gardens. 12-16 inches of water fall each year as rain, snow and hail. And we boast the highest solar exposure of the continental USA. Photo-voltaic systems can provide up to 80% of your annual electricity needs.

The Preserve reaches down to the bottom of Cataract Canyon.

We are in the Eastern-most part of the Game and Fish Department's Unit 10. A vast array of wildlife seeks cover and forage in Cataract Creek's sheltered watershed. In addition we have numerous upland cattle-tanks that provide year-round water to antelope and elk, javelinas and eagles. Diverse bird species call Four Hills home. Peregrine falcons, turkey vultures and cliff swallows build nests on the canyon's high walls.

The Preserve is 35 miles west of the San Francisco Peaks.

The 72 acres range from short-grass prairie and conifer forests on the heights at 5900', to the sandy bottom of Cataract Creek at 5720'. The Preserve encloses a raging seasonal creek, too. To help you learn about the area, we provide an accurate climate summary, and lists of local plants, vendors and contractors.
