Spring is windy.
Infrequent cold rains are interspersed with dry southwest winds that scour the hills. These winds can dominate the weather for weeks. They are hard on leafy plants because they blow well into the growing season. Frosts can continue into early June.

summer
Summer starts warm and dry.
But in July the Monsoon arrives. Dew points climb into the 50's. Daytime heating creates giant anvil clouds that drop heavy hail and lightening in tropical downpours. Storm totals commonly exceed 2-inches, and flash floods are common.

Fall is variable.
Mid-September the Monsoon ends, and the days are mild. Late-season tropical storms can still deliver heavy rains. When the skies are clear the temperature swings wildly between night and day. Daily temperature fluctuations of 40 degrees are common.

Winter arrives early.
Expect frost anytime after October 15th. Snow can fly anytime after that. Early winter is usually cold and dry. Brisk northeast winds can drop the lows to near zero. The snowy months are January through mid-April. The snow melts quickly under the
Arizona sun.
